The South Florida
Motorsports Host Committee:
Aids the participants in activities and functions taking place in South Dade and the
Homestead Motorsports Complex. The committee act as the official liaison in dealing with
the racing industry participating and or visiting our area in conjunction with the
Homestead Motorsports Complex and Park of Commerce.
The Administrative Committee:
Oversees the rules and regulations that govern the
Chamber By-Laws, policies and procedures. The committee is also responsible for writing
job descriptions, assist in producing the annual budget, utilizing the Chamber's 501 (C)3,
writing staff and board of directors manuals and conducting new board member orientations.
The Education Committee:
Has a record of accomplishments with an established mentor program, annual Brain Bowl
honoring Teacher-of-the-Quarter, scholarships and a New Teacher Welcoming Breakfast. There
is a Student Chamber of Commerce at Campbell Drive Middle School with which the committee
works closely.
The Membership Committee:
Concentrates on retention of members and attracting new member investments. Included in
their task is to research new enhancement services for our members and plan a membership
drive for 1996.
The Special Events Committee:
Plans and carries out activities that highlight the area and it is the fund raising arm of
the Chamber. Some new activities the committee is planning are the Annual Golf Classic,
the Super Chili Bowl Cook-Off and a Main Street Celebration.
Leadership South Dade:
Now in it's eighth year, :Leadership South Dade is a nine month training program for new
and emerging leaders. Through a series of skill building and thought provoking programs,
its participants are encouraged to accept leadership roles in the community. The objective
relates to involvement in community issues and provides opportunities fir individuals to
become more active in various leadership roles.
S.A.F.E. (South Dade Alliance for a Crime Free
Environment):
A committee dedicated to finding and proposing pro-active solutions to the escalating
threat of crime in the schools, on the streets, in the work place, in the family, and in
the community. The committee organizes Town Hall meetings that are open to the public,
offering open forums between the participants and local police officers, and is curently
looking into reorganizing the BAND program which is a neighborhood watch for the business
district.
M.A.C. (Military Affairs
Committee):
An integral link between the Homestead Air Reserve Base and civilian life. The object is
to maintain good relations between the base and the community by offering support through
monthly meetings, special events, such as fishing outings and golf tournaments and keeping
both sides informed on issues that could affect the community. M.A.C. organizes the
Veterans Day Parade every year and at their monthly luncheons recognition is given to the
Officer and NCO of the Quarter. In addition, the committee helps military persons who are
in financial need as a result of extraordinary circumstances and M.A.C. supports the work
of the U.S.O.
The Tourism Committee / TEVA (Tropical Everglades Visitors
Association):
Coordinates and oversees all the things that visitors want to see and experience when they
are in the deep South Dade area. The visitors center and the activities surrounding the
Everglades, Homestead Sports Complex, and the new Motorsports Complex are foremost for the
success of tourism... enticing visitors to come and filling their needs when they arrive.
The Antique Federation:
Comprised of downtown merchants who support, and are, the growing antique phenomena. New
shops are encouraged to locate in downtown Homestead creating a quaint "Antique
District".
