The Homestead/Florida City area provides a
solid network of healthcare services. Dade County has the largest concentration of medical
facilities in Florida, with more than 34,000 health care professionals and 28 hospitals.
Besides the major hospitals and research centers in the area, a number of walk-in clinics,
nursing homes, adult congregate living facilities and home health care services are
scattered throughout South Dade County.
A major area health care provider is the Baptist Health
Systems of South Florida. Widely regarded as one of the largest not-for-profit
hospital systems in the state, they encompass the 513-bed Baptist Hospital in Miami
(596-1960), the 500-bed South Miami Hospital (661-4611) and the 120-bed Homestead
Hospital (248-3232). These three acute-care facilities provide Dade County and Upper
Keys residents with general medical and surgical services as well as a full
spectrum of other health care needs, including outpatient treatment
facilities, home care and family-centered maternity care which includes pre-natal care and
childbirth education. Homestead Hospital also offers a 12-bed, 24-hour emergency medical
unit with a pediatrician. These hospitals also provide a source of employment for South
Dade County, with over 4,400 personnel.
Deering Hospital (818-1740) offers the most up-to-date technology and cutting edge specialized services. This acute-care community hospital has over 300 beds and a fully qualified staff of over 500. Deering Hospital is a part of Columbia Healthcare Corporation, which is the largest health care provider in the nation. Their services include modern, fully-equipped laboratory and radiology departments, a full range of surgical services, a hand and microsurgery center, a women’s center offering the most advanced maternity care, a Center for Men’s health, a wound healing center, and programs for chronic fatigue, pain management, sleep disorders, Physical and occupational therapy departments, health education, psychiatric services, and an International Travel Center.
The All South Florida Medical Center is located in
Naranja. It provides complete care for the entire family, including a laboratory, x-rays,

Hospital (251-3800) is another state-of-the-art medical facility, offering the finest
care with modern technology. CHI Martin Luther King Clinic (252-4853) also offers
family services and excellent patient care.
